July & August 2024 Mixed Case Sampler

August 2024 Mixed Case Special
$255 Value for just $189

The summer heat is on full force, but our latest Mixed Case Sampler will help you beat the heat with some refreshing reds and whites and a fantastic Sake crafted by a certified wine sommelier made to appeal to wine drinkers.

Sampler includes 1 bottle each:

Tombacco Pecorino (Italy) – If you’ve never tried Pecorino before (the grape variety, not the cheese!), buckle in, because this may become a new favorite! A brilliant, almost glowing organic Pecorino from Abruzzo, Italy with an intense nose of tropical and stone fruit and soft spice. On the palate the wine a complex and flavour with flavours of apples and melon, tinged with honey, and citrusy mineral undertones.

Txakoli Primo (Spain) -Txakoli is Spain’s answer to Vinho Verde, but a drier and with a dash more spritz.  Txakoli is a young and fruity wine of modest alcohol, balancing acidity, and medium carbonation. Pure, clean, racy, spritzy, and packed with truly mouth-watering acidity and lemon/lime freshness, this wine springs around your mouth like crazy, showing you bitter lemon, tart melon, almond…all in a light, piquant, salty-sea-air kind of way that just says: “let’s party”.

Archery Summit Ridge Pinot Gris (Oregon) – As a clonal mutation of Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris can exhibit some red fruit character and texture depending treatment in the winery. This wine bursts from the glass, with zesty grapefruit followed by fresh and floral aromatics. The juicy acidity plays a major role, bringing balance to the wine and perfectly offsetting the salinity. Combining ripe orchard fruit and a touch of sea breeze, the Vireton Pinot Gris is crisp, lively, and tremendously refreshing.

Lorenza Rose (California) The Rosé is a beautiful ballet slipper pink with aromas of exotic white peaches, soft melon and white blossoms. The wine feels like satin on the palate engaging the senses in a parallel universe of acidity and salinity. Flavors of peach and the white flesh of a watermelon with a Key lime zest finish.  A classic Provence style Rose blend: 38% Carignan, 31% Cinsaut, 18% Grenache, 13% Mourvèdre

Senkin “Modern Muku” Junmai Daiginjo Sake (Japan) – The Senkin Sake Brewery Co is owned by two brothers.  One brother left Japan and the brewery to pursue the study of his favorite fermented beverage, wine.  After studying and living in Bordeaux for a number of years he decided to return to the brewery and work with his brother to create a sake that would appeal to wine drinkers.  Modern Muku Junmai Daigingo is the result of those efforts and we think this delicious sake will appeal to both sake lovers and wine lovers alike.  “Muku” refers to purity and innocence; no excessive decorations. In this unique sake, malic acid is the main component responsible for the uniquely tight, bright and fruity umami-richness. Brilliant apple-like aromatics emanate from this sake, and to get the most of the aromatics and flavors we recommend using a wine glass (actually we recommend using a wine glass for all cold sakes) to truly discover the sensory potential of this brew.

Chateau de Pizay Beaujolais (France)  Beaujolais is one of the criminally underrated wines in they eyes of most people, probably because they confuse “real” Beaujolais with Beaujolais Nouveau and the two wines are completely different.  Similar in body to Pinot Noir (it DOES come from Burgundy too after-all) but with darker red flavors and mellower tannins and acidity, it is a fantastic summertime red.
The Chateau de Pizay Beaujolais is made utilizing fruit grown within the AOC appellations of Beaujolais and Brouilly, known for producing the lighter and more perfumed styles of the Beaujolais wines. Made from 100% Gamay grapes, like most Beaujolais wines, the Chateau de Pizay shows arm floral and blackberry aromas with a fresh palate bursting with black fruits, florals and a hint of elderflower adding weight.

Domaine de Couron Cotes du Rhone Rouge (France)The Domaine de Couron is located on the sunny hills overlooking the Provencal village of St Marcel D’Ardache.  Grenache based with Syrah, the grapes are farmed organically and sustainably from average 46 year old vineyards. Ripe, well-defined with blueberry, plum and blackberry fruit along with hints of cocoa, warm stone and anise. A hint of lavender chimes in on the finish. Deep in color, it develops aromas of scrubland, undergrowth, spices with tanins that are well blended allowing the Côtes du Rhône to remain supple.  60% Grenache, 40% Syrah

Gun Dog Malbec (Argentina) If you’re a Malbec fan but find them a little too much (body, alcohol, fruit…) to take during the heat of the summer then this faithful hound is here to save the day.  At just 12% ABV it isn’t too overwhelming but still packs plenty of classic Malbec flavor, just in a lower alcohol, lighter body package.   Gun Dog remains light and fresh due to maceration in stainless steel tanks, with just 10% of
the wine aged 3 months in third and fourth use American
oak barrels.  rich fruit flavors of blackberry, black cherry and plum. Smoke, earth, wild game and black pepper add to the complexity of this wine and make it an excellent choice for grilled fare and game meats.

Paolo Laurenano Classico Tinto (Portugal) Since the 1990’s, Paulo Laureano has been recognized as one of the top winemaking consultants in Alentejo. He is one of the most sought after winemakers in the region and has worked with over thirty producers to craft most of the Alentejo’s most famous wines. Besides his consulting services, Paulo also has his own project where he makes wines from the unique, local varietals of Portugal.
A blend of Trincaceira, Aragonez and Alfrocheiro it whafts aromas of plum confit notes, blackberries, black olive and spice, all in a balanced and attractive package. The soft, enveloping palate has notes of plum, ripe red pepper, and fruits of the forest backed by silky tannins and an elegant long finish.

Juan Gil “Silver Label” Monastrell (Spain) An inky deep purple/black color with explosive aromas of ripe currant, red berries, and smoked notes. Rich, powerful, and voluminous on the attack, a huge mouthful of crème-de-cassis concentration, silken and juicy in the mid-palate with excellent length and persistence, and a long spicy well-balanced finish including toasted notes provided by the French wood.

Vina Olagosa Rioja Crianza (Spain) – Vina Olagosa has long been one of our favorite producers of great value Rioja, but they’ve been on a roll lately with their last couple vintages that have been showing even better than usual.  88% Tempranillo, 8% Garnacha, 4% Mazuelo – David Garcia, aka “Perica” a nickname from his grandpa, is responsible for maintaining old Rioja traditions and keeping his family estate at the peak of Rioja quality. This is the oldest family-run Bodega in San Asensio and we love all their wines. With the rich Tempranillo this vintage, he still coaxes Pinot Noir-like elegance, and adds the complexity of Garnacha and Mazuelo. This Crianza (aged) Rioja struts its stuff from the moment you open the bottle. Traditional American oak used.

Bedrock “The Whole Shebang” Red (California)

The Whole Shebang is a wine made by the small crew at Bedrock Wine Co. intended to offer authentic Californian deliciousness at a reasonable tariff. Composed of Zinfandel, Carignan, Syrah, Petite Sirah, Mataro, and other Mediterranean varieties, mostly from vines well over 50 years old. The wine is made naturally with only native yeasts used for fermentation.
It is full of red and blue fruits kissed by Californian sunshine while also having bright acidity and just a hint of French oak. We craft the wine to be unpretentiously soul satisfying and ideally enjoyed at a table with food, family and friends.
